Steinway & Sons announces results for 2012

In 2012, Steinway & Sons sold 2,001 grand pianos, of which 1,098 units were shipped from the New York facility to dealers in the Americas. The remaining 903 units were shipped from the German facility in Hamburg primarily to Europe and Asia.

Steinway says that from 2005 to 2008, grand piano sales declined an average of 20% annually in the United States, the world's largest grand piano market. Over the last few years, industry sales have improved, but sales in the U.S. grand piano market remain significantly lower than historical averages.
